Introduction

Institute for Advanced Studies (IAS) is Malaysia's first postgraduate and advanced research institution within a university providing facilities for multidisciplinary studies. Since its inception in 1979, the IAS has been offering an extensive range of graduate research opportunities. Currently, with around 400 postgraduate students, the number of postgraduate candidates has been increasing significantly over the years.

IAS is highly recognized for conducting leading edge research in key areas of sciences, social sciences and humanities. IAS proudly upholds the traditions and standards of excellence in teaching and research by providing effective and efficient student services, opportunities and a platform for the sharing & shaping of ideas. Candidates will be trained and supervised by distinguished local and expatriate scholars from various faculties and research centres, who are instrumental in founding new research niche areas. As described in this brochure, IAS is currently offering multidisciplinary programmes and niche area programmes jointly coordinated by the Higher Education Center of Excellence (HICOE) and University of Malaya Centre of Excellence (UMCoE).
